History

Eliza Beach-Francis and others in the early 1920’s came together and bought bricks for 10 cents each and landed the Foundation for the famous St. Cyprians Episcopal Church in Roxbury.  In September, 1934 Eliza Beach-Francis attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, Inc. where she was deeply moved and inspired to form and organize what is known as the Montserrat Progressive Society of Boston, Inc. on the doorsteps of St. Cyprian’s Church.

John P. Ryner was the co-founder and served as the Sergeant-at-Arms for 42 years.  He received two civic citations in 1996 from the city of Boston for being a longtime member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church of Roxbury.
